Who We Are... and Were... and Will Be
Our Story
Whenever you are, we’re already then. The Time Travel Mart was established in an unknown year and dimension (the exact details have been heroically lost to a black hole). Temporally speaking, we opened our doors in Echo Park in 2008, and Mar Vista in 2012. But that doesn’t really matter because we pride ourselves on being the only Los Angeles purveyor of quality goods from the past, present, and future. It’s painted on our storefront, so there.
Many of our customers have been coming to us for centuries. Whether you’re a Time Scout, caveperson, woolly mammoth, or something else entirely, we have everything you need for time travel and creative writing. Most of our goods are artisanally crafted in this dimension and are available to buy online and in-stores. We do reserve the right to refuse service to all morlocks and fantasy creatures though.
If you're visiting us in the early 2020's, come see us!
If you're visiting us in the early 3030's, we'll see you soon!
But really, you ask, what is this place?
Calm down, we are going to tell you!
We are a convenience store for time travelers and the headquarters of Barnacle & Barnacle Publishers! Barnacle & Barnacle (B&B) is a publishing house that specializes in original student-authored books, and they’ve even been known to dabble in futuristic engineering.
While the results may vary, The Time Travel Mart and Barnacle & Barnacle Publishing are always spaces where visitors are encouraged to be their most creative selves. None of this would be possible if it weren't for 826LA, which we are the storefront to.
826LA is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Los Angeles students with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Yes, we are ALL of these things at once because our timeline is flexible (it’s the space-yoga).
The proceeds from the store help to keep all programs free for our students. 826LA is part of 826 National (the largest youth-writing organization of chapters around the US), co-founded by Dave Eggers and Nínive Calegari. Learn more here.
But wait, there's more:
We have time-traveling writers and designers who volunteer with us.
