826LA’s work with Roosevelt High School in Boyle Heights dates back to 2007. Each year our volunteers help the 9th grade Ethnic Studies students at Roosevelt High school write and edit personal narratives that tie in their course readings to their daily triumphs and challenges. This year’s book takes on a stronger healing-informed lens as students share their experiences of resistance to oppressions, resilience through traumas, and reimagination of their communities.
