We Are the Bridge is a collection of reflections and stories written by senior students of M.E.Ch.A at Venice High School. Through personal narratives, these student authors explore what it means to be first-generation, carrying the stories of those who came before them while shaping paths for those who will follow.
Being first-generation can mean being the first, but it also means being the bridge. Bridges connect, allowing others to cross into new possibilities. They can bloom with strength and purpose, but they can also crack under pressure, crumble, and be rebuilt again. In these pages, students share the weight, resilience, and beauty of living in between worlds—honoring their families’ sacrifices while forging their own identities.
This book is both a testament and an offering: a reminder that even when bridges strain, they endure, and they are never built alone.
